Chapter Guide : NSASD Election Information


The election of the NSASD Executive Board shall take place at the annual convention.
All elections shall be by ballot. Vacancies occurring in any office, except President and First Vice President shall be filled by ballot.

To Be Elected
A nominee for any office must receive a plurality of all votes cast by the voting body present. In the case of a tie, a revote shall be held. If necessary, a lot shall be cast.
The privilege of voting shall be limited to the House of Delegates and elected officers.
Voting shall be limited to those nominated.
The newly elected officers will assume the duties of their office during the Spring Meeting of the Executive Board.
Eligibility Guidelines
Candidates shall be chosen from among those with proof of membership at the time of the convention and who shall be members of NSASD throughout the term of office.
Candidates shall be chosen from among those members who have been nominated by a constituent association and other qualified members who have been nominated by the Nominations Committee.
Candidates shall have obtained written consent from their dean or director of nursing to hold office and shall have given their own consent to serve if elected.
Active members who include undergraduate students enrolled in state board of nursing approved programs leading to licensing as a registered nurse and registered nurses enrolled in undergraduate programs in nursing shall have the right to hold any office of the Executive Board.
Associate members which include pre-nursing students including registered nurses enrolled in college or university programs designed as preparation for entrance into an undergraduate program leading to an associate degree, diploma, or baccalaureate degree in nursing shall have the right to hold any office except for the office of president, first vice president, and second vice president.
Nominations
Slated Candidates: members whose names have been submitted to the nominations Committee prior to the annual convention. Names must be submitted with the appropriate paperwork to the nominations Chairperson by the designated deadline date.
Nominations from the Floor: members who are nominated during the convention business meeting. Names nominated from the floor after verification of eligibility, availability, and willingness to serve shall be included on the ballot. No members can nominate more than one candidate for each office unless by unanimous consent of the house.
To place a name in nomination:
1. rise, address the chair, state "I nominate X for the office of X."
2. a second is not necessary, but is permissible
Campaign Rules & Regulations
Campaign capers
· Each candidate will perform a short skit (dance, song, etc.). The purpose of the skit is to provide the candidate(s) with the opportunity to introduce themselves in a creative way.
· Each candidate will be asked one question related to the office he/she is running for. The candidate will be allowed 1.5 minutes to respond to the question.
· A time for Campaign Capers will be designated at the discretion of the Convention Host Committee.
Each candidate may exhibit one poster which may not exceed 20 X 30 inches in size in the campaign room. A picture of the candidate may be included on the poster. Other campaign posters/signs may be posted outside the campaign room, according to the rules and regulations of the convention site.

The positions of Community Health Chairperson, Resolutions Chairperson, and Parliamentarian are appointed by the President with the approval of the Executive Board.
The Parliamentarian is considered a non-voting member of the Executive Board.
